The 17 Best Convertible Car Seats of 2022

A convertible car seat converts from rear-facing to front-facing and even to a booster car seat when your child is ready to move on from an infant car seat.

Not only are the best convertible car seats adaptable, but they’re also safe, pleasant, simple to install and use, and packed with features.

Here are the top 5 convertible car seats we discovered, followed by in-depth assessments of more than a dozen types!

A convertible car seat has the advantage of being able to be used rear-facing with a newborn or infant and subsequently front-facing with toddlers and older children.

If you use it from birth until your child is no longer in a car seat, you can save money and time by not having to buy a new one every few years!

Every year, we evaluate over a dozen convertible car seats to identify the finest ones for your babies, toddlers, and big kids!

1. Graco Extend2Fit Convertible Car Seat

Convertible Car Seat Graco Extend2Fit

With its exceptional features, versatility, comfort, safety, and ease of use, the Graco Extend2Fit is still the greatest after all these years.

For several major reasons, it truly stands out from the crowd. First and foremost, it supports rear-facing up to 50 pounds and has a very wide overall weight range, starting at 4 pounds and going up to 65 pounds (making it a wonderful alternative for preemies).

It also features a solid steel-reinforced frame, a no-rethread harness, adjustable recline, and headrest height, strong side impact protection, EPS energy-absorbing foam, improved crash test performance, two cup holders, and the simple EZ-Tight LATCH system.

With the supplied infant insert, this Graco Extend2Fit convertible car seat can support babies as small as 4 pounds in a rear-facing position.

Using a revolutionary extension panel that folds out on the front, the Extend2Fit accommodates rear-facing up to 50 pounds (or until your toddler’s head is less than 1″ below the grey headrest adjustment lever), providing legroom up to 5 inches!

In our study, we were able to rear-face children as young as nearly three years old.

If they’re taller, they’ll likely reach the height limit sooner, but most toddlers will be able to continue rear-facing in this seat for at least two years.

On the subject of comfort, we found the fabric and padding to be velvety and of good quality, and toddlers appeared to be extremely content on lengthy rides.

When using the LATCH system, the installation was simple, but when using the vehicle’s seat belt, it was a little more difficult.

We should mention that after installation, the Extend2Fit sticks out quite a bit from the back seat due to the extension panel.

This can make things difficult for a smaller automobile or taller front-seat occupants, causing it to press up against the rear of a front seat.

With a full-size sedan or SUV, this won’t be an issue, but it’s worth noting if you wouldn’t mind sliding your seat forward a little more than usual.

We believe that the added safety provided by extended rear-facing is worth the inconvenience.

Always study the owner’s handbook because there are some important details concerning recline positions for various weight ranges.

It isn’t an all-in-one car seat because it doesn’t convert to a belt-positioning high back booster (though Graco does sell a pricey Extend2Fit all-in-one model).

Overall, we found the Graco Extend2Fit to be the best overall car seat on the market, thanks to its exceptional versatility, comfort, reliability, robustness, ease of use, excellent crash testing results, and safety.

2. Chicco NextFit Zip Convertible Car Seat

The Chicco NextFit Zip can accommodate newborns as tiny as 5 pounds with the baby insert (from 5-11 pounds), and up to 40 pounds in rear-facing mode.

When the NextFit is switched to front-facing mode, it can accommodate toddlers and big youngsters weighing 22 to 65 pounds (or up to 49″ tall).

For various reasons, the Chicco NextFit Zip is always a crowd favorite. One advantage is that it has a machine-washable zip-off cover that makes cleaning a breeze.

It also features an easy-to-use and unique LATCH system for quick and easy installation, as well as being simple to adjust and fit.

With its bucket-seat shape and soft, breathable fabric, it’s also extremely comfortable.

It also has a large adjustment range and some excellent safety features, such as side-impact protection, a steel-reinforced frame, and EPS energy-absorbing foam.

Its weight range is comparable to that of most other convertible car seats, albeit, unlike some others, it cannot remain rear-facing for more than 50 pounds.

The easy-to-read reclining indicators with their sensible numbered system (from 1 to 9) for rear- and front-facing modes impressed us during our testing.

They also included bubble levels to ensure that everything is in the right place.

Second, the zip-off washable cover was fantastic; we were blown away by how simple it was to remove the cover and toss it in the washing machine. It was likewise simple to re-enter.

Third, we liked how when the lower straps of the harness were unbuckled, they automatically flared outward, making it easier to move your infant in and out.

Fourth, the Super Cinch LATCH system makes mounting the seat much easier; it can still be done using the car seat belts, but the super cinch system eliminates the guesswork and strain of making a solid LATCH connection.

Finally, we believed the side impact padding was significant, and the headrest was simple to move up and down. We also liked how high and low the headrest could go, with nine distinct configurations to choose from.

The steel-reinforced frame and EPS energy-absorbing foam offer us confidence in the case of a crash, but at this price, we’d like to see Chicco include an anti-rebound bar soon.

The only drawbacks are that, like most of this year’s front-runners, it’s enormous and hefty, that rear-facing is limited to 40 pounds, and that the bucket seat is incredibly comfy but can be difficult to get babies into and out of (particularly in smaller cars and with chunky monkeys!).

The Chicco NextFit Zip is virtually the heaviest on our list, weighing in at 26 pounds; however, because it’s a convertible, you’ll probably keep it in your car 99 percent of the time unless you need to transfer it between vehicles frequently.

There are a few other NextFit models, including the NextFit Sport and the NextFit Air.

The NextFit Sport is the cheapest, but it lacks an infant insert and does a not support infant under 12 pounds, while the NextFit Air is the most expensive and features 3D AirMesh lumbar area that promotes ventilation.

Who else is a fan of Chicco’s NextFit? Our pals at Babylist, The Bump, and WhatToExpect all recommend it.

3. Nuna RAVA Convertible Car Seats

The Nuna RAVA can accommodate children from 5 pounds (with the infant insert recommended for 5-11 pounds) to 50 pounds rear-facing, and 22 to 65 pounds front-facing. The maximum height for a child is 49″.

The Nuna RAVA features an incredibly small calf support plate on the front of the seat, similar to the Extend2Fit, to extend the rear-facing legroom for taller children.

Nuna is known for producing extremely comfy and high-quality car seats, and the RAVA is no exception. Yes, it’s pricey, but you get a lot for your money.

Nuna RAVA features impressive side impact protection such as a foldable side impact protection (SIP) pod, steel-reinforced frame, and energy absorbing EPS foam.

It also has True Tension (just like Click Tight) lock-off technology, premium and easy-to-use LATCH connectors, and impressive side-impact protection, including flip-out side impact protection (SIP) pods, a steel-reinforced frame, and EPS energy-absorbing foam.

It’s a pretty premium seat in terms of aesthetics and quality build and finishes, with a machine-washable cover, easy adjustments, and a no-rethreat harness, and we found the adjustments to be simple to use.

The crotch buckle is adjustable without rethreading, and there are ten recline modes and ten headrest/harness heights.

It has the appearance, feels, and functionality of a true premium car seat.

The textiles are top-notch, and they’re the softest and plushest on the list, and your baby will appreciate you for NUNA’s level of excellent comfort.

Most of the Nuna Rava sheets are non-flammable and do not contain the harsh chemical sprays found on many sheets, making them ideal for parents looking for a more natural option.

Installation was reassuring; we won’t claim it’s simply the first time, but once you read the manual and watch a demo video, you’ll realize how fantastic it is.

Although it comes with high-quality (push-button) LATCH lower anchor connectors, NUNA is keen (with plenty of prominent stickers to prove it) that you install it using the vehicle’s lap and shoulder belts.

Why? With so much confusion over when to transition from lower anchors to the vehicle’s seat belt, NUNA sought to make it as simple as possible for its clients.

It’s very hefty and huge, as are most of the car seats on this list, and it’s also quite wide (about 19″). It also lacks a booster mode and has a clumsy cup holder.

Aside from that, this car seat has it all, including luxury fabrics, premium safety, and convenience features, as well as a premium price tag.

If the price tag doesn’t deter you, the RAVA is a great choice for discriminating parents looking for a high-quality, comfy, and attractive car seat. Is there anyone else who enjoys the RAVA?

Babygearlab, Babylist, and WhatToExpect friends all recommend it.

4. Clek Foonf Convertible Car Seat

The Clek Foonf is both stylish and functional, accommodating newborns weighing 14-50 pounds (25-43 kg) in rear-facing position “It can be used from birth with the addition of an optional infant insert (called the “infant thingy”).

When you switch to forward-facing, the Foonf can support youngsters weighing 22 to 65 pounds ” (30-49″ tall).

The Foonf is built like a tank, according to Clek, and we couldn’t agree more! The Clek Foonf weighs in at 33 pounds and features crumple zones, a steel-reinforced frame, and a steel anti-rebound bar.

That alone adds around 10 pounds to the weight of this seat! Despite its size, the Clek Foonf is slim, slender, and fashionable.

This is one of the thinnest convertible car seats on the market, measuring under 17″ wide (16.9″ to be exact), making it ideal for tiny automobiles and accommodating three car seats in a row.

But don’t be fooled by the Foonf’s modest stature and adorable style; it packs a punch!

Push-button rigid LATCH connectors, three recline settings (across a fairly wide range), an adjustable headrest that also serves as side impact protection, shoulder, and torso side impact wings, energy-absorbing EPP foam, and amazing fabric are just a few of the features.

To begin, the Foonf is made of Greenguard GOLD certified textiles (CZero plus Performance Collection), which are flame-retardant-free, extremely soft and durable, and of great quality.

Our first impressions of the Foonf were that it was made like a tank: it was substantial, stylish, and of extremely good quality, and its safety and durability gave us confidence.

The LATCH connectors or the vehicle’s seat belt make installation and adjustments a breeze.

To assist with modifications, simply read the handbook and watch videos (here’s a good one). The belts are simple to operate, the recline is simple (though limited in slots), and the headrest height is simple to modify.

It was a little unfortunate that we had to work a little more here to rethread the harness from the back (note that the harness slots range from 8″ to 17″ height).

The seat was comfy for our test toddlers, and we appreciated how they could easily see out over the side impact wings without exerting too much effort, making the seat feel less claustrophobic than some alternatives (like the Chicco).

When we use this car seat, the safety, eco-friendly materials, and style all inspire confidence; and that’s hard to come by, and might be worth paying for.

There are a few drawbacks worth considering. First, unless you purchase the infant-thingy, it has a high weight minimum for rear-facing (14 pounds).

That brings us to the second concern, which is that many attachments, like a cup holder, must be purchased separately (the “drink thingy”).

Finally, the cover cannot be machine washed since the coatings that make it water repellent, anti-odor, and anti-bacterial will be removed.

Instead, you should clean it by wiping it down, which makes sense. Is there anyone else who adores the Clek Foonf?

Our pals at WhatToExpect, Babygearlab, and Babylist all recommend it.

5. Britax One4Life-in-One Car Seat

The Britax One4Life is the newest addition to Britax’s impressive lineup of car seats. Offering great versatility and functionality, it’s instantly captivating by directly competing with the Graco Extend2 Fit and other convertible all-in-one car seats.

Britax’s One4Life is the most adaptable car seat on the market, supporting children weighing 5 to 120 pounds.

It begins as a rear-facing baby car seat with an infant insert that can hold babies weighing 5 to 50 pounds (or until the top of their head is less than 1″ from the top of the headrest).

The car seat then transforms into a front-facing toddler car seat that supports toddlers and big youngsters weighing 22 to 65 pounds (and less than 49″ tall).

Ultimately, One4Life will be a booster mode for high back harness positioning that can support kids from 40 to 120 pounds.

This outstanding versatility transforms it into a true all-in-one car seat, with a 10-year expiration date that allows it to assist your child from birth to moving into the vehicle’s seat.

Given that the lowest harness height is a little high for a premature newborn’s torso length; we thought Britax’s 5-pound minimum was a touch optimistic.

We believe it is best suited for babies weighing 6-7 pounds and higher, and would not recommend it for a premature baby weighing 5 pounds.

The One4Life’s popularity is well-deserved, given its features, convenience, and ease of installation, versatility, and safety. We first saw the One4Life at a baby event in 2020, and we got our hands on it again recently for a hands-on evaluation.

We were blown away by the quality of this car seat. It has the sensation of a tank, with thick, massive cushioning and high-quality plastics all over. We’re not joking when we claim it’s a tank: its 30 pounds and nearly 20 inches broad!

So, with all that weight and heft, what do you get? Steel-reinforced frame, EPS energy-absorbing foam, SafeCell impact-absorbing technology, ClickTight installation, and two muscular layers of side-impact protection are included in the safety features.

Britax has also recently added an anti-rebound bar option for rear-facing setups, which we think is fantastic!

The excellent ClickTight technology, which allows you to raise the front of the seat and follow clearly-labeled belt pathways, made installing the One4Life a breeze (the blue stickers indicate rear-facing information, and green indicates forward-facing information).

This is one of the safest features of Britax seats since it enhances the likelihood that parents would properly install the car seat, which is one of the best safety “features” money, can buy.

The seat protrudes quite far from the back seat in the rear-facing arrangement (up to 35″), making it more ideal for the passenger side or larger vehicles.

With a 9-position recline, 15-position quick-adjust headrest and harness height, 2 dishwasher-safe removable cup holders, a removable cover, harness holder slots and a flip-forward crotch buckle pad, modern quick-connect LATCH connectors, and a cool harness storage compartment when the seat transitions to belt-positioning booster mode, the One4Life has it all.

So, what didn’t we like about it? The cup holders are located in the middle of the armrests, which is practical but unpleasant for larger children.

It’s also big, wide, and heavy, so it’s not ideal for cramming three car seats in a row, hauling through an airport, or switching between vehicles frequently. But it wasn’t designed for that.

Overall, we think this new addition to the increasing field of all-in-one convertible car seats is deserving of inclusion in our reviews; after using it with our children for over a year, it has progressively moved up over 5 positions on this list!

Is there anyone else who adores the Britax One4Life? It’s a popular pick among our Babylist friends!

6. Britax Boulevard ClickTight Convertible Car Seat

Britax has a perfect reputation for safety and its convertible car seats are of very high quality and reliability.

They are also a bit expensive, but Britax Boulevard is in the middle. Below the flagship Britax Marathon and above the high-end Britax Advocate.

Britax Boulevard is manufactured here in the United States and can carry babies from £ 5 to £ 65 using the included baby inserts. It supports backward from 540 pounds and forwards from 2065 pounds (or up to 49 inches high).

Boulevard is unmatched in terms of safety features such as double-sided impact protection, steel-reinforced frame, rebound barrier when flipped, energy-absorbing EPP foam, SafeCell technology, and excellent crash test performance.

Correct installation is the most important aspect of car seat safety, so Boulevard is easy to install with color-coded seatbelt guides, clear instructions, an easy-to-use LATCH system, and an amazing ClickTight locking system.

If you’re using your vehicle’s seat belts, you’ll love Britax ClickTight technology. Everyone knows how painful it is usually to put a seatbelt behind a convertible car seat.

ClickTight offers unprecedented comfort in this regard by folding the seat surface for easy access to the belt guides.

ClickTight makes life a whole lot easier than the other solutions on this list that you can rationalize spending more money on it.

Of course, if you use LATCH, this is also included, making installation easier. There are also numerous indicators and easy-to-understand diagrams on the sides of this seat to ensure proper mounting.

For perfect mounting, the seat has seven tilted positions with clearly visible level indicators, a 14-way adjustable belt and headrest height (no re-screw required), and two crotch buckles.

There is a position. Once installed, the boulevard is very safe and very comfortable.

The harness uses a click and safe snag harness indicator and you will hear a “click” when the harness is tight enough for your baby so your baby does not have to guess to find the right harness.

We love Britax child seats at home, and with over 10 years of experience, we love everything about Britax, including durability, quality, fabrics, upholstery, and comfort.

Speaking of fabrics, they are breathable and soft, and easy to clean and wash.

Nanotex fabrics are even better if you’re willing to spend extra cash. There are only two drawbacks.

It’s big, wide, and quite heavy. Also, the rear is limited to 40 pounds and there is no cup holder. You may be wondering how

Boulevard compares to other Britax convertible car seats. Compared to cheap roundabouts and marathons, Boulevard offers additional side impact protection and support about 5.2 cm higher.

This is great for older kids; it helps to extend use before reaching the height limit and will keep the family for the next few years!

Does anyone still like Britax Boulevard ClickTight? It’s also a top pick from friends at Babygearlab, Babylist, and WhatToExpect.

7. Graco 4Ever 4in1 Convertible Car Seat

Graco 4Ever offers amazing 4-in-1 versatility and supports kids from 4 to 120 pounds. Starting with a rear-facing child seat (440 lbs, less than 49 inches high),

a forward-facing harness child seat (2265 lbs, less than 49 inches high), a forward-facing harness positioning booster (40100 lbs,), and finally only the bottom Booster (40100 lbs, 4357.)

“Height”, and finally a bottom-only booster (40100 lbs, less than 49 inches high) (40120 lbs, 4357 “height).

This weight and size range provides great versatility and supports children from birth to about 10 years old! A key part of the safety of a child seat is proper mounting.

4Ever is extremely easy to install and adjust, with the latest InRight LATCH connector, a 5-point harness (10 heights) with emergency threads for quick adjustment of shoulder and headrest heights, and 6 reclining.

Position and belt lock. In addition to these safety and mounting features, there are also some useful features you would expect from a $ 250 child seat.

Two cup holders, a removable baby insert, a quick-removable, and washable cover, and a harness out of the way while loading and unloading your baby.

In our tests, our first impression was that this child seat was huge and heavy! Given most of this car seat, it was a bit tedious to install, but the adjustment itself was pretty easy.

The top handle is easy to use to adjust the height of the harness and headrest, the tilt handle is located on the front and easy to use, the color-coded tilt settings and built-in level are nice, the two buckles were easy to open and close increase.

After switching Graco 4Ever between different modes, it turns out that it’s versatile, but probably not anyone’s master.

As a rear-facing child seat, it’s overly large and awkward, and unlikely to fit in a smaller car. Also, as a forward-looking belt-positioning booster, it will be a little tighter on the seats and torso of older children.

Also, after using the child seat for several months, some settings became a little stiff and difficult to use.

The fabric and upholstery are comfortable, but not at the level of Nuna RAVA.

We like cup holders and found that the overall versatility that 4Ever offers (and the 10-year expiration date to make it possible) is really impressive and probably worth the cost. You can carry up to £ 40 in a backward orientation, but if you want to carry up to £ 50, check out the Graco 4Ever Extend2 Fit.

This adds a 5-inch extension plate for increased foot space and back support. We believe this safe, sturdy, well-built, and incredibly versatile Graco 4 Ever is unmistakable.

And it deserves this spot on our list. Who still loves 4Ever? It’s also a top pick from Babylist and WhatToExpect friends.

8. Diono Radian 3RXT All-in-One Convertible Car Seat

The small Diono Radian 3 RXT has just been modified for model years 2021-2022 with more robust security features.

The new Radian 3 RXT supports children weighing 5-50 pounds when moving backward with removable baby inserts. Then move to a forward-looking infant seat that supports over 2265 pounds, and finally to a high-back seatbelt positioning booster that supports 40,120 pounds (up to 57 inches high).

Like Graco4Ever, this child seat can take off your baby. Ground birth to support you being completely ready to escape from your child seat (10-year expiration will make that dream come true) what makes the Diono Radian 3 RXT unique is the three child seats.

That is, it is a very narrow (17 “width) Height, which is great for continuous mounting. But that’s not the only benefit. The 3RXT also offers excellent safety and comfort.

For safety reasons, it features a steel-reinforced frame, energy-absorbing EPS foam, side-impact protection, and Diono’s energy-absorbing safe stop belt technology.

Everyone knows the importance of installation for safety.

Diono has a Super LATCH system, clear visual indicators, 12 height adjustments for headrests, 2in1 head and body inserts for babies and newborns, 3 crotch buckle positions, and angled loading and unloading to accommodate growing thighs.

A nifty adjustable bottom. The only thing the 3RXT lacks in the assembly and adjustment department is the emergency screw belt.

As your child grows up, you will need to manually rethread the belt to move it between the five height positions.

Aside from this little hassle, in our tests, this car seat has a very high-quality fit and finish everywhere, easy adjustment, easy to remove and machine wash cover, great removable cup It turned out to have a holder, easy fold ability for transportation (air travel is allowed).

The fabric is soft and breathable and the styling is simple and sophisticated. Yes, it’s expensive and costs about $ 300. And because it’s ridiculously heavy at 30 pounds, we prefer an emergency threaded harness system.

But it’s a very high quality, safe, reliable, durable, very narrow, and comfortable seat, not only in the direction of backward expansion but also in various baby shapes and sizes. Also supports. Who still loves the Radian 3 RXT? This is a top pick from a friend of Babylist and The Bump.

9. Maxi Cosi Pria Max 3-in-1 Baby Car Seat

His child seat has recently been recalled. You cannot carry a child over 65 pounds or 49 inches without using a top tether. If you are not using a top tether, the weight limit is 65 pounds.

The Maxi Cosi Pria Max 3in1 supports children from £ 5 up to £ 40 backward (up to 40 inches high), and forward support supports infants from 22 to 85 pounds (height 2952 inches).

The Pria all-in-one is based on the basic Pria 85 and includes a 3-in-1 belt-positioning booster mode that can handle large children up to £100.

The Pria is about 20 inches wide and weighs about 23 pounds. Maxi Koshi offers the highest level of comfort. Pria presents facet effect safety and GCell Energy Absorption Foam for protection purposes, however now no longer a steel-bolstered frame.

The installation uses the latest LATCH connections, 3 tilted positions, a simple belt guide (but no lock off), 4 step positions, and quick adjustment of the belt and headrest without rethreading.

Pria Max isn’t cheap at around $ 300, and there are many expectations for its price.

Maxikoshi meets all expectations in terms of style and comfort.

It uses beautiful soft-touch fabrics (machine washable), modern and unique colors and patterns, and the best cushioning and comfort for your baby.

All fabrics and areas of the seat are soft and luxurious, everything is padded and soft (like crotch buckle protection), and baby inserts provide additional luxurious support for small babies.

The fabric is wicking and provides fairly good breathability during the hottest months. Our tests have shown that adjustment is one of the more difficult aspects of a car seat.

Adjusting the height of the belt and headrest was difficult to operate and adjust with the handle on top of the headrest.

The same applies to tilt adjustment using the large red handle at the bottom back of the seat. The operation is cumbersome and clumsy.

Of course, I don’t use these customizations every day, so that’s not a big deal. Other settings such as belt tension were very smooth and easy to use.

Even when reversed, the adjustment straps were easily accessible and easy to tighten. The cup holder was a good size and I liked it built-in as opposed to what a toddler could pop out and throw in the car.

The Pria Max version uses the new ClipQuik breast clip device. This device uses a sliding magnetic clip designed to make fixing and loosening the breast clip much easier. Is it easy?

Well, I used it the first 1015 times, but it was a bit painful. It took me a while to figure out exactly how to place my hands correctly and how difficult it is to hold my thumb for it to work.

Once you understand it, it’s great and we can see the charm, but by then you may be a little frustrated. And it goes without saying whether your caregiver will try to use it.

Take the time to teach grandma, babysitter, and others who may be transporting your baby!

A few other little things we liked: The harness has a spring-loaded disposable system that moves out of the way to get the baby in and out of the seat, and the cover can be easily removed and washed. I was able to do it.

However, after several washes, the quality of the fabric deteriorated significantly. It would be much better if you could avoid washing the cover in the washing machine.

I like the original 2in1 Pria 85. Now I appreciate Pria 3in1. We are also always impressed with the new release from Maxi Cosi and our efforts to become a pioneer in the car seat market. It reaches the point with its style and comfort, and it may be worth a somewhat higher price tag on its own.

Of course, you won’t miss the convenience of an extended reverse drive, a steel-reinforced frame, and a seatbelt lock. Who else likes Preah? What to Expect and The Bump’s friends.

10. Britax Advocate ClickTight Convertible Car Seat

You realize we adore Britax convertible automobile seats, and the Advocate is the king of the Britax models, and there’s a lot to love!

The Britax Advocate helps youngsters from 5-sixty five pounds. In rear-going, through mode, it helps infants and babies from 5-forty pounds (and a peek at the least 1″ underneath the pinnacle of the head restraint), and in front-going, through mode, it helps babies and large children from 20-sixty five pounds (as much as 49″ tall).

The seat itself recommendations the scales at a hefty 30 pounds, and is ready 20″ wide.

Britax in no way compromises with protection features, and the Advocate is the cream of the crop. It has the most (triple!) layers of facet effect safety of any seat in this list, a steel-bolstered frame, SafeCell EPP energy-soaking up foam, an anti-rebound bar, and advanced crash take a look at performance.

Now you realize why it weighs 30 pounds!

For set up and convenience, it consists of a no-rethread harness with a quick-modify headrest and harness peak (14-positions), top rate LATCH connectors, the extremely good ClickTight belt get right of entry to and lock-off system, detachable little one inserts, 7-function recline with bubble stage indicator, Click & Safe harness tightness indicator, and a pair of crotch buckle positions.

The Britax Advocate is accredited for air travel; however, no one of their proper thoughts might need to lug this beast thru an airport!

All of the fabric and fasteners are top-rate quality, and all modifications had been very clean to use (recline, headrest peak, harness tightness).

Installing it into our motors turned into amazingly clean whilst the use of the vehicle`s seat belts and the ClickTight system. If we had been in an accident, we’d honestly need our kids to be in a Britax product, preferably the Advocate.

But you will pay the charge for all that quality, you will want to have a large lower back seat to healthy the sheer length of the auto seat, and you may compromise on cup holders and prolonged rear-going through.

Note that you may purchase a separate little cup holder to connect to the facet if needed.

Overall, if you may find the money for the charge and address the load and bulk, the Britax Advocate is simply first-rate and self-belief inspiring, and as an advantage, it is made inside the USA.

11. Britax Marathon ClickTight Baby Car Seat

I love the ideas of lawyers, but can’t you bear the price, weight, and quantity?

Marathons are the cheapest Britax convertible car seats on the market and are probably the best choice for your family!

The marathon supports children up to 540 pounds backward (up to 1 inch below the top of the headrest) and 2,065 pounds forward (up to 49 inches high).

The child seat itself weighs about 28 pounds and is just less than 19 inches wide. The marathon takes place here in the United States and has a very strong history of safety, quality, reliability, and fair price.

Like Boulevard and Advocate, it features one decent total weight (565 lbs), emergency thread belt, side-impact protection, rugged steel reinforced frame, SafeCell technology, energy-absorbing EPP foam, and outstanding crash test performance.

It’s also approved for air travel and is extremely easy to install thanks to the amazing ClickTight technology.

The height of the fast-adjustable belt and headrest can be adjusted between 14 positions, and there are 7 tilt positions and a spirit level, all of which are very easy to adjust.

It’s also much cheaper than Advocate and Boulevard, so there are some losses.

First, the entire shell is about 2 inches shorter, so it’s easy to install in a small car, but it’s not suitable for large children.

It’s more luxurious and less comfortable than its expensive siblings, has a machine-washable cover, and uses the old-fashioned LATCH hook connector.

Like other Britax car seats, there is no cup holder. Britax Marathon has been used with my first child for four years and has been excellent in terms of safety, quality, and finish.

Every time we get it, we fall in love again. It’s the perfect balance of safety, quality, and comfort.

Not surprisingly, Britax continues to be on the list of at least some of the top car seats, not just us. It also appears at the top of reviews from friends on Babylist and Wirecutter.

We have already mentioned the disadvantages of the lack of a cup holder, reduced overall comfort, and the fact that the cover is not machining washable.

Another thing that some parents notice is that for thick baby thighs, the crotch straps can be a little shorter, and of course, some backward are restricted (40 pounds).

Finally, there was a garage full of used car seats, and many marathons found that the cloth covers were torn or torn, especially along the seams.

Of course, they are popular car seats, and this will happen to all car seats a few years later.

Overall, the marathon is a great option for anyone looking for a Britax brand at a reasonable price and having one of the best convertible car seats of the year, but willing to compromise a bit.

12. Chicco Fit4 Convertible Car Seat

Chicco Fit4 is one of the newest all-in-one convertible car seats on the market, building on the success of Chicco’s Next Fit.

Chicco Fit4 supports children from birth (4 pounds) to 10 years old (100 pounds or 57 inches high) and has become one of the most versatile car seats on the market.

Fit4 comes with a 4-step Fit Kit system that includes padded inserts suitable for all stages of development.

A backward-facing infant is 416 pounds, a backward-facing infant is 1240 pounds, a forward-looking preschooler is 2565 pounds, and finally one belt.

Positioning booster for large children over £ 40,100.

For safety, it includes energy absorbing EPS foam, steel-reinforced frame, strong side impact protection, intuitive seatbelt guides and locks, and practical SuperCinch LATCH mounting.

A truly innovative 4-step FitKid system.

It contains a series of four removable inserts to fit every step (toddlers, toddlers, preschoolers, and big kids) perfectly and comfortably to create soft, high-quality fabrics and pads.

For versatility, it features a 9-position tilt and leveling system, a 10-position headrest with an emergency thread strap, two crotch buckle positions, two foldable and removable cup holders, and FAA on air travel.

Certified (up to level) 3: Straight forward with a belt). In our tests, almost all settings, attachments, and instructions were intuitive and easy to use and immediately caught our hearts! I can’t help but compare Fit4 and Chicco NextFit.

Fit4 is extremely versatile in terms of weight and height (up to 4 lbs premature babies and up to 100 lbs boosters), great comfort at all stages of development, great ease of installation, and support.

Provides a better overall shape and size for toddlers entering and exiting the seat.

The deeper seats on the Fit4 are a bit more accessible for comfortable backward movement near the £ 40 limit. I got Fit4 for testing in early 2020 and was impressed.

The Fit Kit pad makes it easy to put in and take out seats, but that’s another thing to take care of and store in your garage.

Another point of all these layers is that the thick fabric is slightly less breathable, so the child will start sweating faster than other car seats.

I like the installation of SuperCinch LATCH. It can be used up to £ 35 in backward mode and up to £ 40 in forwarding mode.

Then you need to switch to the vehicle seat belt. Note that these LATCH weight limits are slightly lower than some other seats, just because the seat itself weighs a whopping 25 pounds.

Also, the height adjustment of the harness is so high that even older children can squeeze out the last pound (up to 65) of the buckled front.

This is important to make sure your child is mature enough to move to a booster seat.

Another point that will please infant parents is that this seat does not protrude too far from the back seat of the car when facing backward.

I encountered some minor flaws during the test. First, attaching a seatbelt was a challenge given the small, heavily padded belt guide path you had to cross.

A small hand is ideal for this task. Second, the holes for adjusting the belt tension in the front were very small to fit in the thumb to activate the adjustment lever, but adjusting both height and tension is very easy.

I would like to point out that it was easy. Third, this car seat requires a standard (11 “) LATCH spacing and most vehicles do not have a special lower anchor in the center seat, so it cannot be placed in the center position when using the LATCH installation.

It’s also fairly heavy (25 lbs) and bulky (19 inches wide), but it’s not too exorbitant when considering similar options.

Overall, I think this new convertible car seat is a great addition to the review. Except for a few very small flaws, we fall in love with this child seat and I think you too!

13. Safety 1st Grow and Go Hybrid 3-in-1 Convertible Car Seat

Safety 1st has a long history of producing comfortable, safe, versatile, and durable products available at very competitive prices.

Grow and Go is Safety 1st’s flagship car seat and has excellent cost performance. Let’s start with a few features.

First, the 3in1 can accommodate newborns, toddlers, toddlers, and large children by moving from a rear-facing (540 lbs) child seat to a forward-facing child seat (2265 lbs) and finally to a belt-positioning booster (40,100 lbs).

It will change. With a very comfy, removable baby insert, this low minimum weight (5 lbs) is a perfect solution for preterm babies and tiny newborns.

Second, there are some great mountings such as screw-less harness and headrest height adjustment, 3 position tilt, 3 crotch buckle positions, harness holder to keep the harness out of the way when not in use, built-in, etc.

And there is a mounting function. LATCH system (hook style). It wasn’t as easy to install as the ClickTight system, but it was easy enough to put the vehicle belt through the rear and the LATCH system was pretty easy to use (although using the traditional hook system).

Using LATCH made it easier to fasten the seat to the vehicle, but using the vehicle’s seat belt made it even more difficult.

The lockout feature may fix this, but it is not included in the sheet. For everyday use, the seats are surprisingly comfortable in their price range (about $ 150), with pads everywhere in the right place, soft-touch plastics, and high-quality fabrics.

This high level of comfort is ideal for small naps while driving, making long car trips more tolerable for babies and toddlers.

If it gets dirty (and it will!), the cover is easy to remove, but more importantly, it is machine washable * and * can be put in the dryer.

This is a bit of a miracle for a nasty eater! Another practical feature is the double cup holder that breathes fresh air.

These are real cup holders that don’t stick out from the sides and also function as snack holders. Other advantages include a variety of colors and styles, a 10-year expiration date, and the variety that your child can hold until they are ready to completely remove their child seat.

Well, there’s no extended 50-pound reverse travel like some front runners, a steel-reinforced frame, and no rebound lock when reverse.

These aspects make it a little easier, it’s a plus. Another drawback is that the most extreme tilt angles may not be sufficient to fit some cars and prevent head flops, which is not ideal for newborns or vehicles with steep seat angles. (See Pool Noodles).

Realistically, if you’re looking for a great car seat for toddlers ready to graduate to booster seats, this might be perfect.

14. Graco Milestone All-in-One Convertible Car Seat

Graco Milestone 3in1 is like the younger brother of Graco 4Ever4in1. We offer 540 lbs backward support, 2265 lbs (up to 49 “) forward harness support, and 40100 lbs (3857”) high back harness positioning booster support.

It weighs about 20 pounds, is just over 19 inches wide, and lasts 10 years. For safety reasons, it has a steel-reinforced frame, energy-absorbing EPS foam, and Protect Plus side impact protection. Reverse mode.

Includes Simply Safe adjustable belt and headrest height (10 positions), Enright LATCH system, and 4-position tilt (with ball scale) for installation and convenience.

Our tests have shown that all settings are very easy to use and have a good range for most babies.

Installation with LATCH was very easy, but with seat belts, it became a bit more complicated.

The fabric is high quality, soft, easy to clean, and completely removable for machine washing. We also found that the black version is fairly breathable so that babies don’t get too hot.

I have to compare the milestone with its big brother, 4Ever. Compared to 4Ever, it lacks some features. It doesn’t convert to a backless booster (or has a higher weight limit of 120 pounds), doesn’t support babies up to 4 pounds, and has less tilt and headrest position.

Also, there is only one removable cup holder instead of two, and in our tests, it was a bit cramped in the rugged children’s lower seating area.

Overall, this is a good Graco model with all the bells and whistles, basically like the 4Ever, but with a few minor differences, it’s a good price, usually less than $ 200.

15. Maxi Cosi Magellan Max All-in-One Convertible Car Seat

The new Maxi-Cosi Magellan All-in-one is Maxi-answer Cosi’s to the Graco4Ever and BritaxOne4Life strollers, and it offers excellent functionality from infants to roughly ten years old.

Starting as a rear-facing child seat, it supports babies from 5 to 40 pounds (or 40 inches). As a forward-facing belt seat, it supports infants and large children over 2265 pounds (and 2949 inches high) and as a 40-120 pounds (and 4357 inches high) belt-positioning booster.

The seat itself weighs about 25 pounds and is about 19 inches wide.

For safety reasons, Magellan Max has adjustable side impact protection and energy absorption EPS foam, but no steel-reinforced frame.

When installed, we appreciated the latest LATCH connectors, seatbelt locks, 7-position tilt, and quick adjustment of belt and headrest height.

It was a bit of a hassle to thread the vehicle’s seat belt behind, so it is highly recommended to use LATCH for as long as possible (up to 35 pounds for this seat).

We also found that it wasn’t as heavy as most all-in-one car seats. This is probably due to the lack of a steel-reinforced frame.

The last thing I noticed is that the fabric collects lint and fur so well that it looks a bit shabby after a few days of use. This is especially true for dark fabrics.

Speaking of fabrics, I love being easy to remove and machine washable. All the fabrics were so soft and comfortable; Maxi Koshi is excellent at giving your baby the best comfort!

And all the settings, lockouts, side-impact protection of the fuselage, tilt, headrest height, and everything else was very easy and intuitive to use.

We tested both the Magellan 5in1 and the slightly more expensive Magellan Max 5in1. There are four main differences between regular seats and Max Magellan seats. First, Max uses Nomad’s fabric line.

This includes trendy colors (such as heather gray) and fabrics that are resistant to hair and lint buildup. Second, Max uses an “easy-in, easy-out” spring-loaded belt system that pops up and opens automatically (we loved it).

Third, rather than the traditional squeeze clip, Max uses a magnetic slide-based chest clip (which I didn’t like as much as the traditional clip method). After all, at $ 40, Max is a bit more expensive than regular Magellan.

Is Max worth the extra charge? We love spring-loaded Easy out harnesses and premium fabrics, which alone are worth an additional $ 40. However, magnetic breast clips require some getting used to.

On the downside, there were no signs of a steel-reinforced frame that could increase structural rigidity in the event of a collision.

In recently released products, the backward weight limit is also a bit lower, and some of the other premium car seats have increased that limit to £ 45 or £ 50.

Our tests showed that the fabric was also great, but it got a little warmer during the summer and one of the toddler testers sweated.

Except for the slightly higher price, I have no other complaints. So, overall, this is an excellent premium car seat with some caveats to consider when making a decision.

16. Peg Perego Primo Viaggio Baby and Toddler Car Seat

The Peg Perego Primo Viaggio Convertible Car Seat, like the Britax Marathon, is an old classic at this time.

Of course, significant improvements have been made along the way to meet modern safety and comfort standards. Made in Italy, Primo Viaggio supports a child of 545 pounds (at least 1 inch head under the headrest) in backward mode and 2265 pounds (or 49 inches high) in forwarding mode.

The seat itself weighs only 21 pounds and is less than 19 inches wide.

Extensive safety features such as side-impact protection, energy absorbing EPS foam, impact-absorbing foam element (SAFE) crushable zone, and steel-reinforced frame.

For installation and comfort reasons, this model was also very easy to install and the buckle turned out to work very well for getting the child in and out of the seat quickly.

The fabric is breathable and easy to clean, and the seat is very large, especially in the vertical direction (high in the seat).

As expected of Italian craftsmanship, all the adjustments were easy and smooth and I think the car seats were great!

It will look even better with Alfa Romeo, but it upgraded the interior of our Highlander! Some things caught our eye.

First, it doesn’t have a cup holder, and second, toddlers usually exceed the height of Primobiaggio, turning backward before gaining weight. It’s because the backrest in reverse mode cannot be elevated very high (according to the handbook, it can only be moved to position 7).

With that in mind, I believe you’ll abandon this child seat reversal well before your youngster reaches the £45 mark. This is a pity.

After all, it’s quite pricey; it’s not quite as expensive as Nuna Rava and others, but it’s close to $ 350.

Overall, this is a fantastic car seat with only a few tiny flaws. If you like the look and don’t expect your child to be tall, this could be a good option.

17. Diono Rainier 2AX & 2AXT All-in-One Convertible Car Seats

The Diono family of car seats is huge and impressive, and Rainier is the most luxurious line of convertible car seats.

Comparing the Radian 3RXT (above) to the Rainier, the Rainier offers an extended tail fairing of up to £ 50 and a huge, deep sidewall.

Rainier is also very heavy (31 lbs) and very huge (18 inches wide, 16 inches deep, 28 inches high and above), so parents and unnecessary people with large vehicles (especially backward) are Suitable only for.

It makes sense to change seats regularly between vehicles. All this weight and mass enhances safety features and comfort. Rainier uses a full steel frame, energy-absorbing EPS foam, aluminum reinforced sidewalls, and memory foam sheets.

The Rainier 2AXT adds an adjustable headrest, but at an additional cost of about $ 100. If money is not an issue for your family, we recommend 2AXT.

However, without the additional headrest, the 2AX is the same and costs about $ 230. Rainier is one of the most luxurious convertible car seats on this list and our tests have shown it to be extremely comfortable and of high quality.

Especially when placed in the rear, it was heavy and bulky, so installation was a little tricky.

The integrated LATCH system is high quality and easy to use, and the belt tension is easy to adjust. We also highly value the rubber base that prevents it from slipping on the vehicle seat.

Important note about this child seat LATCH system: Do not use LATCH if your child weighs 35 kg rear or 40 kg forward (switch to the vehicle seat belt at this point).

We appreciated how the seat cover folded up for travel because it was easy to remove and machine washable (to throw in the trunk, or to bring on a plane).

Another feature we appreciated is how low the seat’s bottom sides are, making it surprisingly simple to slide your infant in and out.

There were a couple of things about the seat that we didn’t like. For starters, its size and weight make it unsuitable for most families, but that is a decision for you to make.

Secondly, the level of the shoulder harness can only be adjusted by rethreading from the back of the seat, which is inconvenient.

Third,  the seat uses floor straps when moving backward, which is a bit cumbersome to install and booster mode strap positioners are not optimal (similar to radians).

Overall, Diono Rainier is on a larger budget to provide excellent comfort and safety, Diono’s reputation for quality and great versatility to support growing children from birth to about 810 years old. It’s the perfect option for people who own larger vehicles.

Other Graco Convertible Car Seat Models to Consider

Graco MySize 65: The MySize sixty-five is largely similar to the Graco Size4Me. It has a pleasant low weight minimal of four pounds, making it a notable alternative for preemies, however, it most effective is going as much as sixty-five pounds.

Doesn`t experience as strong as others, no steel-bolstered frame, however does have EPS energy-soaking up foam. Harness became hard to tighten, decrease buckle became too huge for obese thighs, and chest buckle became difficult to unbuckle at times.

Graco Size4Me 65: As we stated above, the Size4Me is largely the Graco MySize sixty-five.

It is likewise much like the Graco Contender however with a speedy do away with cover, top rate LATCH connectors, thicker cushioning, and toddler insert.

We overview the Contender in our price range automobile seat list.

Graco MyRide 65: Here is a notable less expensive convertible alternative (about $85), and we do a complete overview of the Graco My Ride in our fine price range convertible automobile seats list.

The Diono Model Numbering System:

Here’s what they mean: the two or three is surely the version, with the Radian being on its third version (e.g., the 3RXT), and the Rainier being on its second version (e.g., the 2AXT).

The subsequent matters to recollect are the letters: you may forget about the R and A, and cognizance at the X and T. The X shows that it consists of a toddler positioner, and the T shows that it consists of an adjustable headrest.

So to get all that a Diono automobile seat has to offer, you are searching out the XT versions (e.g., the Radian 3RXT or Rainier 2AXT).

Factors to Consider when Picking a Convertible car Seat

Our hands-on testing and focus groups have brought you some excellent convertible car seats to consider.

Overall, the best and safest convertible car seats include options for Clek, Britax, Graco, Chicco, Maxi Cosi, Nuna, Peg Perego, and Diono.

Even if we choose, finding the perfect car seat is not an easy task and we know that many factors can be taken into account. The most important factors to consider when conducting a review are:

Car Seat Ease of Use Ratings:

This is one of the most important factors to consider when buying a convertible car seat.

The last thing you want to do is lose hundreds of dollars and deal with frustrating installation processes, annoying adjustments, nasty buckles, or non-removable or washable covers!

Even the most comfortable and safest convertible car seats can be very annoying if you curse them every time you use them!

A real test will look at the capabilities of all the individual components and how they interact.

Intuitive mounting without pinching your fingers or straining your arms, smooth and comprehensive adjustments, buckles and straps that are easy to fix and open, removable covers, and machine wash.

In general, more expensive car seats have also been found to be generally user-friendly.

However, there were some exceptions. Testing with some of the more expensive and versatile Maxi Cosi sheets has shown that some settings and buckles are very tedious and annoying.

All of these factors are taken into account when compiling the final assessment.

Car Seat Reliability Ratings:

Convertible child seats are becoming more and more versatile, with some models such as the Maxi Cosi Magellan 5in1 and Graco 4 Ever claiming a useful life of up to 10 years.

However, if you are expecting to use a double-digit child seat from a newborn baby, you need to make sure that it withstands the challenges of time.

The garages we tested have many old child seats, and within a few years, they have torn cloth seams, sticky buckles, broken seatbelt buckles, restricted or stuck settings, etc.

I am. Don’t worry; these car seats weren’t on this list!

In conclusion, car seats are increasingly expected to have a very long service life, so car seat manufacturers need to use higher quality parts than ever before.

Is that always the case? Lower Austria. When parents try to use a car seat for 810 years to reach every part of the car seat market, companies don’t always think about long-term reliability.

We will update all reviews as we gain experience with long-term testing. We consider this to be very important as some convertible car seats are ready to use out of the box and do not last long.

Car Seat Versatility:

As mentioned earlier, when it comes to car seat reliability, car seat makers are a single convertible for every aspect of the car seat market, from newborns, toddlers, toddlers, older children, and even tweens.

I’m trying to create a sheet. In short, some convertible child seats can carry a 4-pound infant, which is a great option for premature babies.

However, it also means that the same child seat can be converted into up to four other configurations, showing some serious diversity as babies, toddlers, and large children grow up.

We have been testing child seats for over 10 years, but start with a dedicated infant carrier (see the buying guide for buying child seats for several reasons) and use it until your baby is fully grown. I think is the best (usually around £ 35).

This allows the baby seat to snap to the inside and outside of the base or to the stroller, making life in early childhood much easier.

Then switch to a backward-facing convertible car seat. This will eventually move to the forward-facing seat and then to the booster seat (belt position, and in some cases directly below).

This is a more expensive option because you have to buy two separate child seats, but it pays off in terms of comfort and convenience for you and your baby.

If you have a limited budget, a 4in1 or 5in1 convertible car seat is the best choice.

Our testing explores the challenge of choosing a versatile car seat in a single stage of development, without compromising comfort or suitability, without breaking the bank.

Cost for the Best Baby and Toddler Car Seats?

You may have noticed that convertible child seats vary greatly in quality, style, and price.

Some convertible car seats sell for around $ 100 (see cheap convertible car seat reviews here), most range from $ 200 to $ 250, and some range from $ 250 to $ 500.

In our experience, you can get a great convertible car seat for about $ 200.

It is worth considering only if the car seat has additional safety or comfort features that are not offered at a low price.

We don’t recommend paying more than $ 300,400 just to get this year’s more stylish and popular child seats.

Many of these sheets look great, but they are not always suitable for ventilation, cooling, or ease of use.

Our review takes these compromises into account when ranking our competitors.

Varied Baby Weight and Height:

Convertible child seats differ greatly in weight and height. Some popular models like Maxi Cosi Pria are designed for toddlers and above, while other models like 4Ever are designed for newborns and above.

Some have a very high range of weight and height, but in reality, they are not suitable for stubby monkeys or headrests that are not tall enough for large children due to their narrow proportions.

In other words, car seats may offer high height and weight limits that are not very realistic given the variety of actual dimensions and settings of the seat base.

In our tests, we test child seats for short, tall, thin, and bulky children and do their best to properly express how the seats support the alleged reach.

I’m doing my best. In this way, we strive to provide feedback based on actual usage, rather than simply specifying seat specifications.

Safety and Crash Test Results

All convertible child seats sold in the United States are safe. That’s because all of them must meet strict NHTSA Federal Safety Standards and Requirements, including passing rigorous crash tests and building requirements.

Of course, some car seats exceed these requirements by adding safety features. The top 10 convertible car seats have some good examples of this.

These include multi-layered top and bottom impact protection, steel-reinforced frames, bottom, and top energy-absorbing foam and crushable zones, rebound bars, and road legs.

At least these additional safety features provide additional safety in the event of a collision, absorbing some of the strong forces generated when the vehicle collides with another object from the front, sides, or rear.

For example, rebound bars and road legs can reduce dramatic rotational force by up to 50% in the event of a collision. Is it worth more than 100 euros? I will be a judge, but I think it is worth reassuring.

For most CPST technicians, more important than any of these safety features is to safely complete the installation according to the manufacturer’s instructions.

These include proper mounting angles, seat play (margin) thresholds, distance to the front seats when moving backward, and how to tilt backward beyond the car seat adjustment range to compensate for tilted vehicle seats.

Includes from LATCH. The vehicle belt, vehicle belt guide, crotch, and shoulder belt positions are suitable for the baby’s size, and the correct use of the holding belt will be changed.

If you are concerned about proper installation, most local police or fire departments will have a CPST technician to ensure that your child seat is properly installed.

Finally, always check the child seat expiration date to make sure it is clear.

Car Size to Fit Convertible Car Seats:

Unless you are driving a large car or SUV and have multiple children, it is important to consider the size of your convertible child seat.

Width is important when trying to push multiple child seats into the back of the car, and height is important when the convertible child seat is in the rear (because it is more likely to touch the back of the driver or passenger seat).)

Modern convertible car seats are larger, more protective from side impacts, thicker pads, higher backrests, and accessories such as cup holders often stick out a few inches from the side or front of the car seat.

Technically speaking, it’s good that car seats are also safer, more comfortable and more versatile. However, pushing a child seat into a small car can be a big problem for some families. Here are two suggestions.

Make the measurement first. It only takes a few minutes to grab the tape measure, figure out space constraints and compare them to the car seat specifications.

Then check out the list of the narrowest child seats of the year! In this list, you will learn about excellent child seats with a relatively small footprint, such as Clek Foonf and Clek Fllo.
